This event is originally inspired by Portraits (from With/out Pretend), a book about unresolved feelings. More about the book here: withoutpretend.com/portraits

This is the first time we're hosting this event in Montréal!

Featuring radical truth-telling by 10 great women — we will be announcing your storytellers soon.

Unruly Bodies

“All of us live in unruly bodies that we’re all trying to take care of as best we can." —Roxane Gay

THIS IS A NIGHT YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS.

Speakers will share a story about their relationship with a body that refuses to act “as it should.” In a world that works so hard to control, discipline, and punish the bodies of women, and especially trans women, femmes, BIPOC women, non-binary folks, and sick and disabled women, how can we begin to celebrate our unruly bodies?

Feat. stories from:
Claire AH
Tanya Neumeyer
Frizz Kid
Nadia Tan
Ama Scriver
Chantelle Blagrove
Anne Theriault
Margeaux Feldman
Yes the poet.

This event is curated by Margeaux Feldman & presented by With/out Pretend. Partial proceeds from this night will be donated to the Ocama Collective in support of offering free doula services to those in need. "How To Hold Yourself" by Ness Lee is used for our banner/poster with Ness' express permission.

Readings/Feelings

We’re hosting our first ever reading event, featuring new work from the contributors of You Care Too Much, a collection of writing and art on the question of self care. We’re thrilled to be hosting Inuit writer and designer Adina Tarralik Duffy (Coral Harbour, Nunavut) and long-time community organizer Jessika Hepburn (Lunenburg, NS), as well as locals Brooke Manning (owner of Likely General) and Sofia Mostaghimi (Past curator of the Emerging Writer Reading Series). Just like YCTM, the readings will be as diverse as their authors, ranging from creative non-fiction to poetry to short fiction.
